Truly sad indeed, prayers for these officers families, friends and fellow police. It's sad to see that people resort to violence and believe that's the solution to their problems. What happened to love thy neighbor as yourself.

My good friend is a york city officer and was involved. He's physically ok, but not so much mentally.

Two of my best friends were local police officers.  Both were neighbors and fishing and hunting buddies.

The one was involved in a fatal shooting.   The resulting mental burden was too much for him to bear and it destroyed his life.

We all see the physical danger they encounter, but the mental danger can also be devastating.

This story has made national news. I heard it brought up on Clay and Buck, and Hannity on the Radio today.

 

Unfortunately I think Gov. Shapiro's remarks on it are the political equivalent of an ostrich sticking it's head in the sand (Yes, I know they don't really do that).

Our police provide the line in the sand keeping us in a Republic. My prayer is that more people will understand that...

I served for a year on a county Grand Jury, what an eye opener. Dash camera and body camera footage show efforts to deescalate conflicts and how our law enforcement people are abused and expected to "BE NICE" to law breakers.

God bless all first responders and remember to go out of your way to say thank you to them.

They never even had a chance to de-escalate. By the sounds of it this guy was not all there in the head, but it sounds like the cops were trying to serve a warrant, possibly for him, I am unclear on that point. But basically it sounds like he was hiding in an adjacent corn field and opened fire when they knocked on the door.

I was in Hanover today and drove past the scene on the way home, about 1/4 mile of the road on one side was filled with news vehicles.  The cornfield was straight across from the house making it easy for someone to stalk and harass anyone near or in the house.  Just a sad story.  Police are trained to be careful and get backup for many domestic problems, but this time they did but it would have taken an army to clear the scene safely.

 

Back when I renewed my CC permit, I went to the sheriffs office and saw what appeared to be a very troubled officer in plain clothes going around and hugging all of the other employees in the office.  Turned out he was the one that fired the fatal shot that killed a fellow officer at the UMPC hospital.  I can't imagine how one can handle that.

Military (deployed in some form) and first responders have the most difficult jobs on earth. 

 

I could never be a police officer. I don't know how they don't pop and beat the living crap out of belligerent people. I know it occasionally happens, but I am amazed it isn't more common.

I personally try to let every officer I encounter that I appreciate what they do.
