Fairbanks recoil stuck

Recommended Posts

I have dug my original rj with the hopes to get it running for a cool rides car/tractor show at my boys school in a couple weeks. I went to pull it over and the recoil is stuck hard. No movement at all. It’s not the engine that spins easily just like it should. I’ve taken all the little pieces off to try lift the part that the rope wraps to and it wont budge. I’ve got it soaking in pb blaster. Anyone have any suggestions to get it freed up? Old picture of the tractor for attention too.

Thanks. I haven’t had any luck getting it to come apart. Soaked all day in pb and still stuck hard. Afraid to pry and break anything.

It's a snap ring (#6) that retains it all so I'm assuming "all the little pieces off" includes that. Maybe try some heat with a propane torch and work it back and forth trying to spin it. :twocents-02cents:

Yeah I had everything off of it. The snap ring the washers the bushings and the dog assembly. The part the rope wraps to is the part stuck. It will not spin at all. I don’t want to pry it and break anything. Will try heat this Friday when I get back in the garage.

Got it freed up and working correctly. Hit it with a combination of heat and pb blaster. Reinstall tomorrow when I get some recoil rope.
