Upgrading 38" to 48" deck. Anyone ever done that?

There's one spot in my yard where i have to mow pretty close to the edge of a ditch. Every time i do it it involves a lot of leaning and fear of topping over. Every time i think it would be nice if i had a wider deck and i wouldn't need to get so close to the ditch. Has anyone ever upgraded a 38" side shoot to a 3 blade 48"?
I'm guessing the mounting arrangement is a bit of an issue.

First question, what model Wheel Horse will the 48" mower be mounted on?      You would want 12 HP or more if it has a manual transmission or 14 or more for a Hydro.

i don't believe there is a "38 side chute" so not sure what model deck you actually mean?  WH had a 36, and 42 rear discharge -- plus a 37 side discharge ( that has a very different configuration with above the shell spindle pulley units ) , also a 42, 48 and 60 side discharge?

Frankly, can't magine how deck shells would be re-fabricated to be a bigger wider shell ? Why not simply get a wider next larger size wh mower deck?

@OldNoob, I see on your profile that you have a 210-5. That is a vertical crankshaft engine lawn tractor and the attachments from the larger garden tractors will not fit without significant modification. Also, a 48" mower deck would be a lot to ask of a ten horsepower Briggs and Stratton.

Didn't realize you were referencing a 200 series lawn mower....i assumed you owned a 300, 400 or 500 garden tractor model to wsnt to operate a 48 inch deck?

Push mow it??? Maybe just tow the mower with you if it's far away from storage?

Or, How about fastening a simple bracket that goes on to the side of the tractor to attach and use a push mower if the area is too big to push mow? Make it simple on / off and towable to take it to the area you need it. Hook it up to do the job and tow it back when it's all done.

It's just hard to know what can be done with such a limited description of the task
