We lift 2500-4000 lb vehicles over our heads and walk around under them every day. I don't care how good your safety glasses, helmet, or steel-toe boots are, if that car falls off the lift on you because you weren't paying attention they aren't going to save you. Worked 20 years in auto shops. Saw a Chevy wagon fall off a lift. The guy working on the car was at the parts counter when it happened. I've seen some guys on flat rate really get a vehicle bouncing on a lift yanking a transmission out! I started out on those dreaded twin post adjustable lifts with on lever for each post. You didn't want to leave those up overnight. Came in to work one morning and one of the guys left a new Toronado up. In the morning the back end was on the floor.

8ntruck 7,995 #29 Posted 13 hours ago I picked up a speck of something in my eye driving with the windows down. I got home, and the eye was really irritated. Looked in the mirror and saw a black spec in the white of my eye. Trip to the Ready Care ( @Pullstart shop), where they put a drop of dye in that eye. The dye made my eye tear up enough to wash the spec out, but did show where the speck was.

Well yesterday while wire wheeling the gasket surfaces on tranny halves a bristle came off and headed strait for my face. Missed the eye by an inch and wasn't wearing any protection. No pics or this would have been in bumps and bruises. What's worse is @Achto gave me a real nice set he gets from work. He works in a very industrial environment. Says they got safety machines there that dispense them and gloves and such. He is allowed one a week and just has to swipe his ID to get them. Best part is they have cheaters built right in in different strengths. So SWMBO marches me right out to the truck where she left them and makes me wear them. She says just because protection is no longer needed on the night stand ... and something about Red Ryder and yer gonna poke an eye out. Now I imagine you can get them cheap in the jungle but I like Dan's price ... clean the machine out Dan I'll have them laying every where!!! Your generation is showing Sir. I have seen and heard enough from Dad and his friends along with his fathers shenanigans to faithfully mind my P.P.E. You have NEVER been bullet proof and the tires are showing some wear. Please... ALL of you. Take care of you and STOP hoping it will just WORK OUT. I mean this with the biggest heart! And donzo

I've seen a lot of scary stuff done by guys who weren't paying attention, in my younger days some of them were done by me. We had a lift at my first shop, two-post in ground, that the guide track would come loose and then it went up cock-eyed. Guy jammed the valve open to lift it and ran to get his parts, came back to one side all the way up, other side only half-way up. We had another lift at the next shop, same style, but gravel would get in the teeth of the guides and cause the opposite issue. One time I got distracted by something and managed to lift a Ranger the whole way up after only setting 3 arms. Another time we had to take a cab off a Super Duty, and when we pulled the trim around the bottom of the cab found where we needed to lift it at the front was rotten.
