953 nut 61,716 #1 Posted September 10 National TV Dinner Day is celebrated on September 10. It is the holiday that captures the essence of TV Dinner. This is a day to let yourself enjoy a complete meal without having to cook. It is also a good time to enjoy a nice show on TV. Did you know that the first TV Dinner was a Thanksgiving meal of turkey, peas, cornbread dressing, and sweet potatoes? It was the company C.A. Swanson & Sons that developed TV Dinners in 1953. 4 1

In the black and white 1955 commercial the meat appears to be gray. Best of my recollection it tasted a bit gray too.

8ntruck 8,101 #7 Posted September 10 As I recall, the "garden fresh peas" had a gray cast to them, too.

Agreed... FYI - you can add a local RI "Culinary Delight" to that list of Mystery Meat. New York System Hot Weiners - aka "Gaggers", "Belly Busters" and "Dirt Dogs" (Not to be confused with Coney Island Dogs) Three all the way - loaded with meat sauce, onions and mustard - and a large coffee milk is referred to here as an "Arizona" And I have NO clue why..... Side tidbit - to my recollection, only New York and Rhode Island "allow" such for sale... the mystery meat in the weiners & the meat sauce do not measue up to the other 48 States standards.... Ya gotta die from somethin' .... Yum. Edited September 11 by ri702bill
JoeM 8,708 #11 Posted September 10 Truth be know many restaurants have lots of heat and eat stuff on the menu. I would say the days of having good cooks is pretty much rolling away. I ask a local mom and pop place about their meatballs and the one girl said they quit making there own years ago. Way cheaper when you factor in labor. 2
