National Iguana Awareness Day is celebrated every year on September 8. The day is observed as the perfect chance to learn more about the good keeping of your pet iguana. You can learn tips on how to keep your iguana friendly and healthy, and even master a few grooming tricks to make it look dashing. Iguanas make for great pets for those who are cramped for space or don’t want to spend a lot of time looking after a pet. These cold-blooded reptiles can be amazing and affectionate pets for many decades if they are given proper care and attention.

A Haiku...

I wanna iguana

to roam about my back yard

eating mosquitoes

A limerick...

There once was man with an iguana

Who liked to take him in his sauna

His wife who joined him disagreed

Shrieked and almost peed

As she ran quickly into the fauna

Probably not for me.  I don't think I have decades left to take care of one and my daughter is certainly not going to want to inherit one.

It's nice knowing they are cold blooded.  If one get loose in the house, just turn the air conditioner down until it gets sluggish and return it to the cage.

In South Florida iguanas can be found hanging out in trees and aren't afraid of people. When there is a cold snap they can be found lying on the ground, motionless. Once the sunshine warms them they go back up the tree like nothing had happened. When I lived in Homestead, FL there was an iguana about 18" long living in the cluster of palm trees outside my bedroom window. Came up missing one day, guess someone took him home as a pet.
