i bought the set of aftermarkets. they have a 30 day policy for returns. if they seem iffy or dont lap in and run good then i will return it. also reading others posts valve guide replacement is almost always unnecessary and that grove in the exhaust stem is normal like others here have mentioned. whelp when i get them i will lap them in and set them and let you guys know how i feel about them. wish me luck.

The Kohler engine service manual that you can download on here has a good section on replacing valve guides.

i was thinking just drill a self tapper in, double nut it and slide hammer it out. maybe drill them thin first. that is if they even need replacing.

Its your engine and you can screw it up any way you want to or you can do it correctly.         :angry-tappingfoot:      Your choice!

Pages 11-6 and 11-7 of this manual may be of some interest to you.

and based on sections 11-6/11-7 my stem is fine therefore its not wore therefore the guide is not. its too out of spec to lap for 4 hours straight to get the clearance i need on the stem to tappet. so i need a new valve and the guide is fine...... the only thing that could be "wrong" is im using aftermarket parts so i have no idea what you mean by "wrong" :scratchead:

ok so i read the manual. if the spec of the guide doesnt exceed .005-.007 depending on what valve then the guide itsnt wore according to the documentation. i bought a new valve anyway. so all i can do is measure the guide clearance and if they check out everything should be proper.
