World Calligraphy Day is celebrated annually on the second Wednesday of August. This year the day will be celebrated on August 13. This holiday is designed to remind everyone of the importance of handwriting, unjustly forgotten today due to a large amount of digital and printed information. The day was founded by the “Manuscript Pen Company.” On this day they wanted to remind us all that handwriting is a skill, an additional opportunity for us to proclaim to the world the uniqueness of each person’s experience, and that every one of us is special and distinct.

My spouse is a calligrapher. Her comment on your post? “Amen to that!"

Like many “long experienced codgers” on this forum, I was taught cursive handwriting in grade school. Never mastered it, though! :)

Pff, I can barely print. My cursive looks more like what you see on a piece of paper in a cartoon.

It's a bad connection, high resistance somewhere between the brain and the hand.

I'm actually told that people with other conditions I have are more prone to being dysgraphic because the brain is going too fast.

My youngest son never was taught cursive?

Thankfully I hear they have brought it back in school, so at least my grandkids will learn it.

I guess I had never given a thought how beautifully written the words and letters of the Declaration of Independence is.  I've seen it probably hundreds of times and saw it was something special but to pause and study the strokes of the pen is amazing.  My words I'm typing are rather bland.   :(

Thanks for bringing this to light
