ebinmaine 74,409 #1 Posted August 9 I've being asked a few times both here on Redsquare and in person how I set this up. To give credit where it's due, this is an idea that I got from this site. I believe it was Richard @953 nut. Could have been others so I apologize if I'm forgetting someone. 5 3

John2189 550 #5 Posted August 10 Nice. I’ve been using a piece of all thread nuts and washers in a vice similar to that for years. 1
ineedanother 1,711 #6 Posted August 15 I was doing something similar and welded a piece of flat steel to the all-thread so the vise would hold it better. The issue I had was that I'm 5'9" and had to work at shoulder height. I finally broke down and got a mini changer from HF a couple weeks ago when a single item was 20% off. That made it under $50 so I talked myself into it. I went by the metal supermarket and picked up a length of 2" channel and a 5 x 5 piece of 1/4". That was another $25 but I was kinda pot committed at that point. Drilled 4 holes, welded it together and shot it with some granite gray. Works much better for my short self

Lee1977 7,369 #9 Posted October 3 I use a 1 1/4" in the vice if the wheel bearings are removed. The vice grips and a couple pieces of plywood also help. I have another trick when mounting old stiff 8" or 6ply 8's. Don't have a picture, but I use a braded rope tie down that I hook in the tire to keep the tire from slipping off when I move the tire tool. The other end of the is hooked on a drill press mounted on the other end of the work bench. Once I get the tire on far enough that it isn't slipping back off I loosen and remove it.
