It gets to be a bit smoother once the sides of the belt get glazed smooth. I'm assuming you were trying it with the belt guard in place as that what the pics represented. The belt guard guides the belt around the engine pulley to help it slip on it when the pedal pushed. Small "wire fingers" can be added and attached to the engine block to help guide that belt if it's still grabbing with a clean groove and the belt guard in place. Personally I'd avoid using any teflon tape on that oil fill plug. It could easily let pieces fall into the oil when removing it. There should not be any oil seeping out of there without the teflon anyway. If there is, then there's probably too much crank pressure.
