Mickwhitt 5,131 #1 Posted Thursday at 01:58 PM CAUTION CONTAINS GRAPHIC DETAIL OF INJURY. Hi all. Took a trip to the local emergency room this morning after taking a short fall from a set of step ladders. The fall caused no injury other than a big bruise on my left thigh, not sure what I hit that on. But I was climbing up a pergola to put up a Yorkshire day flag on my newly installed flag staffs. My hands were holding onto the pergola when the steps fell away. I tried to hold myself up there or at least manage my descent so that I wouldn't hurt myself. That was successful as I only sustained the bruise and didn't even fall off my feet. Problem was I trapped the tip of my little finger somewhere up there and pulled the finger pad and nail off. Looking at the reason for blood all over the paving made me go bit woozy and I knew it was a hospital job. Short story long, no bone or nerve damage, no mobility issues, no tendon damage. Just a huge cut where the pad ahe been ripped away. 10 stitches later things look a bit more normal and the I section to numb it was very welcome. Im back home now with pain relief and a tetanus shot coursing through my body. Two hours to be dealt with from walking in to walking out. Very impressed with that performance, but the nurse said I had been very lucky not to have left my pinky up there for the crows. I did pretty good to say there were no sharp tools, power tools involved, just gravity and a pinch point. I reckon I caught it in the Vee of the bracket and it just tore my finger end off. 1
ri702bill 9,445 #2 Posted Thursday at 04:44 PM Lucky you did not get the wedding ring caught then fall - you would have then a stubby finger. That is exactly what happened at a local indoor Tennis / Racketball Club. A woman hit the ball and it went up towards the metal roof, bounced and was wedged in the reachable crotch of the vertical & angled roof support. She jumped up to retrieve the ball, ended loosing 2 knuckles. Not good....
Wayne0 1,205 #3 Posted Thursday at 05:13 PM (edited) Yikes! Those pics reminded me of the time wife bought us tickets to see Eric Clapton in Boston for my birthday. She got us a room in a hotel and we went wine shopping in the North End. Carrying a bag with several bottles in one hand and a box of pastry from Mike's in the other, I tripped on a cobble stone and went down. The wine hit first and the bottles broke. Left hand followed into the bag! A hand surgeon at Mass General had to stitch up 2 fingers, 40+ stitches. Thought I was loosing my pinky, but I did save the pastry! Worst thing, is we missed the show! Edited Thursday at 05:17 PM by Wayne0 2
