Bats moving in

Recommended Posts

Bar Nuthin

I built this bat "rocket" house a few years back. I understood that it might take a few years for the bats to take to it, but I had almost given up hope.

Then today I noticed this...

I was gonna say. The first thing I thought of was Agnes Moorehead on Bewitched!

We'd hope.

Never seen more than 4.

I'm clearly getting old. My first thought was of a cheer made famous by George Carlin...

And I can't type a single phrase of it on the forum, but the first word was "batsh*t"...

The neighbor's pointer comes and gets me in the evenings and makes go out back and chase bats.

Pull a piece of soffit down......the bats will be in there within a week.

My daughter had this happen and the gap was small. Exterminator came out and said no go. (she thought it was ground squirrels at first) Can't touch them but he also said wait till evening and when they are all out push the soffit back in place they will move on.

We have tons of bats here. they are cool to watch, like mini fighter jets.

Bats and Lyme Disease are an internet subject that has "Town Cryers" on both sides.

The State of Michigan has a similar climate to Maine.

Michigan appears to believe bats carrying Lyme is "highly unlikely." This is state government code for "we don't believe it's possible but we have to say it could happen because of some remote occurrence..."

Bats don't generally play host to the deer ticks that pass it along.

Nowadays nothing is impossible.

The main concerns for bats would be to avoid the guano 💩 unless proper PPE is worn, and don't get scratched by a bat because they can be a rabies carrier & transmitter.

Before they were  decimated by white noise syndrome we had to many  to count. The wife and I would sit on the deck just after dark and watch them. Last evening I counted three, last summer two. Hopefully they will continue increasing.

Went to a buddies house today and got this picture of where bats have taken up residence.  They have moved into the attic vent and guano is dropped on the sheet of foamboard insulation.  He's just hoping they are not getting inside attic.

There are articles on the internet on how to get them out. Basically make a tube with a flap that acts like a check valve. Lets them out but not back in.
