Mickwhitt 5,138 #4 Posted July 23 Not bad for a daft lad from Birmingham. The lead guitarist, Tony Iommi, deserves a mention too. Whilst Ozzy was the front man and voice of Sabbath, Iommi overcame a massive injury to his fret hand to play the best rock guitar ever. While operating an unguarded machine at a factory he severed the tips of his fingers and thought he'd never play again. All he had was bony stumps where his finger pads should have been. But he set about making his own artificial fingertips from different kinds of rubber so that he could carry on playing. He still uses them to this day as there are no NHS prosthetic fingertips available. Black sabbath were meant to be and together they created a new style of music. RIP Ozzy, give em hell. 2

Mickwhitt 5,138 #7 Posted July 24 Just been reading an article about the band. Very interesting how they were influenced by previous bands and styles of music. They started out as a blues band but rehearsed opposite a cinema where people flocked to see horror films. Tony Iommi said its amazing how people pay to be frightened, why don't we write scary songs. Coupled with the way he had to adapt his guitar to accommodate his missing finger tips the sound and style was born. Ozzy was a showman too and wrote the blueprint for so many performers. 1
