Yummy fruit of the past?

Recommended Posts

Pullstart

Anyone ever tried this stuff?  I have heard about picking it on hot and dry days and soaking it in water for a day.  I’m sure it would be amazing!  It was a little alarming on the day I chewed on it, I asked a tree guy what it was and he thought it was poison sumac!

I’m sure it’s an acquired taste (that I won’t ever have!)

Well the "poison" versions of things got their names because they looked like other benign plants but caused a bad reaction when touched.

Kevin,   :confusion-shrug:           I can understand the first taste test but why did you take a second bite after spitting out your first?   As I remember it the poison sumac grew in wet swampy areas so you will probably not have to have your stomach pumped.           :ROTF:

It's IMMEDIATELY obvious that this IS NOT the poisonous version of sumac.

Wrong color berries.

I saw nothing in that article that talked about consuming it, I personally have a sensitive stomach and WOULD NOT try it.

I've never tried it raw. Given correct preparation I'd give it a go.

So, if sumac is the main ingredient in Sumacaid, then do I want to know what's in Gatorade??? :scared-eek:

Wowsers! The way this thread started I was about  to order sympathy flowers.  Now it's time to hear the results of soaking and  sugaring and drinking.

The last time I held a “squishy” a baby, it wasn’t oil that I got all over me. 🤣

The texture is not amazing.  The taste, is so wonderful!  It’s supposed to be in the 90’s today and it should be picked hot and dry.  If time allows..

I was at the local restaurant food supply today, Gordon Food Service.  Guess what I found?  Ground sumac.  C’mon guys, live a little.  Lick the wallpaper once in a while.
