baymee 3 #1 Posted July 20 I am working on the model in the title. The pedal moves over a safety switch that appears to be a ball bearing which depresses and activates the safety switch. Anyone know availability and part number for that switch? Unrelated to electrical, and I may have to post in another section, I can't figure out how to freewheel this thing. I can't find any data tag to further ID this tractor.
Ed Kennell 42,299 #2 Posted July 20 (edited) to the The ID plate should be below the console plate. If it is an automatic hydro transmission, it may be a 1972 Charger 10. The tow valve may be a TEE handled valve under the seat. Turn the valve 1/4 turn to be able to push the tractor. Edited July 20 by Ed Kennell

baymee 3 #4 Posted July 20 Thanks. That sure looks like the switch. I'll check that soon. I'm gonna take a few pics of the 1972 auto/hydro tranny to see if we can locate this release.

The tire pressures are up. Chains don't help. It goes one foot easy, the gets hard Edited July 20 by baymee Clarity

pfrederi 18,732 #8 Posted July 20 (edited) You have piston to piston Hydro. Tow valve is on the front of the pump. Just shaft with slot in the end for a screw driver. (#47) Edited July 20 by pfrederi
baymee 3 #9 Posted July 26 Wow was that relief screw in a hidden place and right in front of your eyes. The clutch pedal spring completely hides it. The clutch has to be held down to see it and to even get a screwdriver on it. You can barely see the screwdriver slot. As far as the ball detent switch, the ball doesn't get depressed enough to activate it. I thought I could shim it but then there isn't enough clearance for the pedal to pass by. A new one on order. baymee 3 #11 Posted July 26 I tried a thinner shim on the ball detent switch. A bit less than 1/16" thick. That worked. Im sure that spring went thru many owners. I'm just getting it to run.

They are usually frozen and on par with the difficulty of removing a steering wheel, an axle hub, or a hitch pin. 1
baymee 3 #13 Posted July 26 Actually it moved very easy and once open, it was effortless to push the beast on the macadam even with chains on.
baymee 3 #14 Posted July 26 I have a 312A dedicated to a snowblower. Hardly gets used. Very very hard to push.

baymee 3 #17 Posted July 27 The owner went on to mowing heavenly pastures now. Regarding the Eaton transmission in my 312A....I bought it sometime in the late 90s. I live on a gentle mountain side and am constantly going up or down. The trans started fading when warm, to the point where it wouldn't move. I switched to 30W motor oil. That worked for awhile, then 50W, then 90W and finally 135W. Each worked for awhile. Then it cost me $800 for a new one. Put the old one in my barn. By the way, I have quite a few spare body parts for that 312 in my barn. Never will need them. Then I got sick of always moving the joystick because of the up/down terrain. And so i fabbed a foot pedal mechanism which is absolutely fabulous.
