Roundhood headlights

What type of light bulbs do the roundhood headlights use and how do you get the assembly apart to change the lightbulb?

I'm not sure what model we have. We just acquired an 854 yesterday morning and it has headlights on it but we don't know how to change the bulb or what type of bulb it takes. I'll try to get a photo of the assembly later.

I don't think they are a Wheel Horse part.

Definitely not a WH part. Someone added them to the hood.

The front opens up. Either a band holding them on, they're clipped on or they unscrew.

I don't see a band around the circumference, i tried getting a small screw driver behind the seem to see if they were put together that way but I didn't have a small enough screw driver and I've tried twisting them to see if that's how they are held on but they don't budge or I just don't have a strong enough grip.

I think that's just reflection and oxidation on the chrome.

I’m withdrawing the suggestion of starting with the wood block -- see later posts that add important information.

That hole may indeed been where a screw held it together and it is indeed rusted stuck.

I have a similar set of these lights on my Rat Rod. They are aftermarket motorcycle lights. Those dimples on the side are there for the cam lock on the ring. Check on the bottom side of the light for a screw.

Don't remember, I may have installed a screw on mine to ensure that it would stay together. If it has one then remove the screw. You will then need to twist the front ring counter clock wise to remove it.

This should be the style bulb that you are looking for. I used the LEDs on mine because I'm not running a charging system.

They are also available in halogen, I don't think that they are any brighter than the LEDs though.

The bulbs that I posted above should be available at your local hardware store. They are intended for 12v home lighting, so I would check in the home lighting section.

I just went out and looked and there is not a screw on the bottom and I tried twisting the front ring off but the darn thing just won't budge.

The ring does not twist very far. The dimples that you see on the out side form 3 small pins on the inside. These 3 pins fit into the grooves on the front ring for a cam-lock fit. I removed one of my rings so that you could see what goes on inside.

Try soaking the ring down with some penetrating fluid and let it set for a while. Maybe it will work it's way in and help loosen things up.:handgestures-fingerscrossed:

:text-yeahthat:

Thanks for making that clear, @Achto!

Also, @ebinmaine alway reminds us that if lefty-loosey isn’t working right a way, a little righty-tighty might be needed!
