Domenic 8 #1 Posted July 8 I recently purchased a wheel horse charger 12 1970 but can't seem to find the correct igntion switch anywhere
ebinmaine 72,357 #2 Posted July 8 I believe that's one you wanna make SURE you get right. Does the tractor still have the original ignition system?
lynnmor 7,787 #3 Posted July 8 Is the number 2868906 just the patent number by chance? Here is the Indak website, perhaps you can come up with the correct number if you know the function of each terminal and how they connect internally.
pfrederi 18,628 #4 Posted July 8 Kohler and WH used 3 different ignition systems on late 60 early 70 Tractors. It is important to know hat ignition system is currently on your tractor (as some original systems failed and were replaced by other types. Pleas post a picture of the front of your engine

rjg854 12,151 #8 Posted July 8 That's the patent #. What are the initials on the lugs, that my help narrow it down.
ebinmaine 72,357 #9 Posted July 8 That appears to be the original ignition system. The coil is visible on the front of the engine. 1
rjg854 12,151 #10 Posted July 8 I'm thinking it's a magneto system.
squonk 43,710 #11 Posted July 9 Kohler Breakerless ign. There is a trigger under the shroud and extra wires from the stator that connect to it.
953 nut 59,728 #13 Posted July 9 Unfortunately the type of switch you are looking for is nearly imposable to find. It has a pair of 60 amp contacts to operate the starter rather than using a solenoid. My suggestion would be to buy a 103 991 ignition switch and a solenoid. The solenoid can be mounter on the engine and then two larger wires presently going to the old ignition switch would be moved to the two large solenoid terminals. A new fuse protected # 14 gauge wire would be added from the battery + to the ignition switch "B" terminal. An ignition switch pigtail as pictured below would make the job easier. The attached drawing will come in handy for this conversion. 2
pfrederi 18,628 #14 Posted July 9 Make sure what ever switch you get that it has an "M" terminal not an"I" terminal;. The wrong switch will destroy your breakerless ignition system,!!
