snowhound 106 #1 Posted July 7 I'm getting 36 volts AC but only 8 volts DC. I replaced the rectifier and getting the same results. Any ideas what is causing is? I did try 2 meters to rule out a bad meter.
953 nut 59,743 #2 Posted July 7 Do you have 12 volts on the B+ terminal when the engine is not running and the key is in run? Chances are you have some connections that are loose or corroded.
953 nut 59,743 #3 Posted July 8 In a PM to me; @snowhound said, I put the key to the run position and have 0 volts from the B tab. The manuals we have are for a 1986 model 31-17KE02, I suspect that yours is a 1985 model 17KE01 but our manuals don't cover that model. The diagrams don't show a three tab regulator which you obviously have. I am not sure the diagrams will be too helpful but have included them. The wire from the "B+" on your regulator should connect to the "R" terminal of your ignition switch. There is probably a plug between the engine and chassis wiring. If there is a plug you can disconnect it and test for 12 volts in the start and run positions on the end of the plug that goes back to the key switch. The "B" tab of the regulator should have 12 volts on it in the run and start positions of the key switch. You can take a look at your wiring diagram below and in section 11 of the service manual.
