Pullstart 66,519 #1 Posted June 30 @WHX?? found this practically in his backyard this weekend. I says if nobody else wants it I do! I made a deal with the seller and Uncle Jim plans to pick it up before next weekend for me to pick up at Portage, WI Garden Tractor Daze. It’s the wide track model and the 20 hp engine. It’s locked up and needs some major work to be a runner. I’m torn between getting it going for a rip around the field, and making it another shop ceiling hanger 5
Pullstart 66,519 #2 Posted June 30 I’ll go out on record, and say a guy could probably search on here and find where I’ve said I wouldn’t ever want one of these, and maybe some place that says if it were cheap enough I’d nab it! 1

Hmmm... with a 3 gallon gas tank, you could be gone awhile... The grille & headlights look like they got heisted from an amusement park bumper car. ri702bill 9,326 #5 Posted June 30 Is additional cooling required for summer use? like removing the heater box on and old Ariens Sno-Thro?? The Safari was designed for winter use - hate to see that 20 HP beast chuck a rod due to poor cooling...
Mike'sHorseBarn 3,237 #6 Posted June 30 I think they look cool, but vintage sled parts can be difficult to find. If you don't have anything else to work on, I'd say try to get it running just to hear it run otherwise I vote another ornament on the ceiling of the shop lol

For example, the Snowmotractor for summer use was used about 5 minutes max, then shut down.

wallfish 18,033 #14 Posted July 1 I vote for both. Get'er running and rip it across the field if possible before hanging it up. That's if you don't plan on restoring it. We had a blast getting one of those 2 stroke Kohlers fired up at the big show last year. FYI, a regular old carb off of a 10hp K series bolted right on and allowed it to run. Or at least that's what we did but I don't know if or how many different size engines those things used.. 1
parsonsponyz 196 #15 Posted July 4 You are the luckiest at finding things Kev. I've been trying to locate one like that for a while and no luck, of course not many in central PA. Good luck with it and my vote would be to at least get it running once.

There were 258 brands of snowmobiles made in the 1970's, that is the main reason it is hard to find a Wheel Horse. Lancaster County is on the southern border of PA but it had the most registered snowmobiles and maybe they still do.

When these where made there was over 100 manufacturers of sleds. Kev I would wall art is my vote.
