ebinmaine 72,092 #1 Posted Saturday at 01:26 PM Trina and I and a friend went out to a medium sized hike yesterday. Approximately 6 miles. Elevation gain well over 1000 feet. Great calorie burning. Excellent woods hike. No real long distance views so it's not super popular with most folks. Big Rock Cave is a literal pile of giant rocks that form a few walkable and crawlable openings. Jungle gym!! 4 4

What most folks forget is to stop and look around once in a while. We're all about the HIKE. Too many people are all about the destination. 1 3
Racinbob 11,900 #4 Posted Sunday at 11:20 AM Outstanding pictures. Did I see a bat at about the 27 second mark in the video?

Trina and I just looked at it. It certainly appears to be a bat. 🦇

Racinbob 11,900 #8 Posted Sunday at 01:32 PM We have quite a few and I tried my best to add to the population but it turned out to be a complete failure. I guess the local bats prefer the woods. Now as a carpenter bee hotel, it was a real hit.

Every time. Carpenter bees 🐝 ... none here. Too far north.

Paper wasps love those "houses" too.
Racinbob 11,900 #11 Posted Sunday at 02:56 PM I built that right to BCI specs upsized about 50%. Two chamber and approved for bat house stain. I've even used bat attracting stink. There's more than just the nice neat holes the carpenter bees drill. It looks like something tried to claw it's way in through the side. It's chewed up so bad the front fell off. Now the center chamber divider is sliding out and will fall soon. The whole thing will be coming down. Dang bats just don't appreciate my work.
