Mower deck identification

Recommended Posts

syslvt90

Hello, I have a c141 wheelhorse. It came with a mower deck but no belts, no serial number, no extra parts. I was hoping someone could help me i.d. so I can get the parts needed and find out if it is compatible with the C-141.

Thank you for your time.

Welcome to Red Square

That looks like a 42" side discharge deck. Here is a list of all of them that would fit a C-141

I would look at the models sold in 1978-79 to see if they match. Not uncommon to find an new older deck sold with a new tractor. Mower blade hole size and the number/style of rollers and their location on the deck may help in identification. The spindle design changed over the years so an older deck could have been upgraded so disassembly of the spindles would be necessary to determine that.

For quick searches go here

https://www.partstree.com/search/?msclkid=e5baf37065dc11af43e5a9808bdc6a14

Enter a model number as written in the list to compare models. If you have trouble let us know - we may have parts lists they don't have.

The online parts lists may include 42" and 48"  but fail to identify which parts fit what deck. Do a search of our files for the correct belts and blades using the mower model number and look for an IPL or TIPL.

@syslvt90  do yourself a favor and check  out the bottom side of that deck , clean it out  , get some sun on it  , like this , consider decks to be in the GOLD MINE ZONE ,  for improvements , especially , FUNCTIONAL DETAILING / LUBRICATION .  also note the perfect  idler pulley  spot  for your  spindle drive belt , middle of deck  gap on belt  guard . those decks can operate , with little to no effort , and be quiet too , once done , you become a convert for correction , and  solid deck operation . pete

Yes, it will work on a C141.  The deck looks like it has the ¾” hole for the blades (as opposed to the double D).  To my knowledge, there are 2 different spindle types for the ¾” blade hole, a ¾” and metric, or 17mm. I recently replaced the bearings in both types of spindles and what I found is that the 17mm spindle has the pulley attached with a nut and lock washer and no keyway, where the ¾” spindle has a nylon lock nut, no lock washer and a keyway for the pulley. The rest of the parts are likely to be the same, but this will get you closer to the actual model using the list above.

Do you have @syslvt90 Do you have the mule drive that goes on the front of the tractor to route the belt to the deck?

The older mule drive pulleys were cast and the newer ones are stamped, spot welded  steel.

There are 2 spaces between the pulleys, they are slightly different lengths. keep them in their respective spots to keep the belt lined up.

I've searched through the list, none appear to match. Still stumped. Thank you for everyone's advice.

Here is a 42" deck from a 312 that I fixed up last summer.

It looks close to yours.

@cleat notice the  deck spindle belt  opportunity for improvement ?  looking at belt guard / cover gap in middle of guard , have added a 3" flat  idler pulley , also regreased  that bearing with  lucas 550  deg lucas xhd chassis grease , insuring no noise , or failure . idler is just pushing inward toward front of deck , eliminating  long unsupported belt bounce , have that on my 3 decks , decks and related pto drive set up is a gold mine for , functional detailing , basically going after any  sloppy connection area , and insuring  , quiet / zero noise bearings . my mule  drive belt , easily  spins deck , by hand , no screaming  pto engagement , what is that telling you ? that entire  set up starts at   the battery tray frame , very sloppy starting point . very similar  improvements  , gained  throughout tractor  . most of the decks I see , barely function , but have a commonality  of bearing whine , and screaming clutch engagement , what can possibly  be done ?  easy to eliminate , pete

You will need a mule drive and a 1/2" x 103 belt, look like the deck belt is still there.  There are two posible spindles assembles. 3/4" keyed will have 3/4" nuts holding the deck pulleys in place.

The other will be metric spindles they will have 5/8"  lock washers holding the pulleys. There is very little difference in later 42 decks, so exact model number isn't too importian.

Yes I have a mule. It didn't come with the pulley spacers, or a belt, but I do have both pulleys.

Thank you all for your help!
