Curiosity killed the cat... GT1848 / 60" question

Recommended Posts

Docwheelhorse

Hello all,

Picking up a GT1848 at show... also picking up 60" deck.

Can I hang said 60" deck on the 1848 with straight axle and be able to move it out to back field with limited steering or does steering not work at all / deck doesnt plain fit without forward swept?

Thanks

Tony

Tony, thought I recently saw a picture of one of the guys lifting their non-swept axle up by the front to get the deck under it, thought to my self, that is one heavy deck.  It was recent though.

I know it's possible with 6 inch front wheels. Not sure about 8 inch wheels.

But in my mind the hard part would be getting the deck under the tractor.

Interesting thought on 6" fronts...

And I thought this deck was meant to be driven over to install

I believe and could be wrong on both aspects but 1) deck made by JD for WH. 2) JD made deck so you simply drive tractor over deck to mount... alot of even there bigger stuff is "drive over"

We can get it under the tractor.  Don’t you worry about that!

I've seen pictures of a 60" deck on a 416 with 6" front wheels, so that may be an option.   I've seen other people say those decks were made by Dixie Chopper for Wheel Horse.

I’m the guy with the 416-H with the 60” deck and 6” front wheels. Once I got lazy and set up some blocks then drove over the deck to put it on. I will never do that again, for various reasons. If you were able to get it under your Work Horse you definitely would not be able to steer very much, and it would be a lot of work just to move the deck. I see you have a back rack, but that will be a lot of weight cantilevered off the back of the tractor. Steering may become a problem with that as well. A little pull behind cart may be your best option, or a small front end loader to carry it.

That was the one I was thinking of.

And I agree, driving over the deck is a bad idea. Tried it once, took a couple hours to get it straightened up because the hitch came down in a bad place and jammed all up.

I put one of my C-195, 60" decks on one of my GT-14s.

I also took mid tachamatic from C-195 and moved it to GT-14. (the round bar that is clamped is larger diameter than standard deck).

Now before you all get puzzled looks on your faces "🤔" (yes that look).

The GT-14 was updated with the latest mid and front tachamatic.

It was a struggle to get it all together, but it mowed perfectly!

A few years later, tried it again.  I could not get the deck on for some reason!

It's bothered me ever since.

I had enough room to turn the tractor left or right.  Extreme turns and the tires would rub on deck.

I've always wanted to get a hold of last 60" deck made for 520 and try it on GT-14.

To see if it functioned better.

To anyone following..this is how the 60” deck was transported. My son used my 520-8 and we dragged it the whole 800’ to the trailer on the deck wheels.
It kinda striped the field  as we went!
