Beap52 1,390 #1 Posted June 6 (edited) Local PBS TV station is hosting it's fund raising week. Tonight, even as I type, they are featuring the development of tractors. Really interesting show. The show is named "Tractor Wars" Edited June 6 by Beap52 additional information 1
953 nut 59,746 #2 Posted June 6 I have seen that show before. It was apparently written by the PR department of John Deere. None of their failures or shortcomings are mentioned and they take full credit for innovations made by others that they bought. However, it was entertaining.

Beap52 1,390 #4 Posted June 8 I'm learning that PBS seems to recycle a lot of their shows. I'll see something interesting such as Tractor Wars and tell someone about this great show I've discovered and they have already seen it. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see all of it as we had company drop by so I'll be looking forward to it to be recycled in the future. It also seems to me that most productions (not just PBS but tv shows, books and other media) are somewhat tainted, in that, they usually support the author's or producers point of view. For me, I just glean from it whatever I find interesting or educational.

953 nut 59,746 #6 Posted June 8 This is reasonably entertaining though heavily slanted toward John Deere's accomplishments and the shortcomings of others. No mention of the origin of their entry into the tractor business and the environmentally unfriendly manner of disposal of their early failures. However, they went on to become a world leader in agricultural machinery production and both of the attached videos are worth watching. The behind the scenes video is very interesting too.
