633 give away

Recommended Posts

Teddy da Bear62

I'm giving a friend of mine a 633.

It's in excellent shape having been restored somewhere in the past.

He's been chomping at the bit (horse pun) to get a good look at it.

It's been in storage for at least 15 years in a

second story in my barn.

Well today was the day we attempted to roll it out.  It would NOT roll!!!  It was definitely in neutral.  Brake was not on ....  But wouldn't roll!

It acted as if it was in gear, but wasn't.

I attempted to run it through its gears and it would not shift!

Isn't shifting accomplished with a series of "forks" in tranny?

What could be the problem guys?

As always with my horses "ran when parked".

If he’s willing to patient, it might be worth filling the transmission up completely with diesel or kerosene, and letting it sit a while.  I had a stuck engine a while back, and filled every part of it with used engine oil.  I put it away for one year and managed to free it up enough to fire it!

I can't see how.  Barn doesn't leak.  Unless cat peed in tranny?  😂😂😂

The amount of condensation inside a tranny is surprising and after 15 years of widely variable temps and humidity who knows what rusted in place

WHX??

Don't force it can break a shifter fork or something.

Only thing you can do is pull the shifter and look for the H pattern.

Maybe stuck in two gears from the kids playing on it.

Screwdriver to get in in neutral.

Hey Teddy, it's been a long time since you have been on here.  Good to hear from you.

Pull the shifter and look in there and see what it looks like (see pick above).  I would think nothing is broke, just surface rust keeping things form moving.  I would not try to start it with the drive belt on.  You could fill it up with diesel and keep trying to move the shifter once in a while.  But, you know, the best thing is to drop the trans and open it up.  You will probably only need the case gasket and a wire brush.  :occasion-xmas:

BTW...How are you doing these days???

How do you manipulate it with screwdriver?  Forks move pretty easily?

I will try to post pictures of it.

Wait!  I got kids in my barn?  🤔🤣🤣🤣

I know how you guys LOVE your photos.....lol

Pry on the blocks that the shifter ball rides against.  Yes the forks should move somewhat easily. You may have have to jiggle the input pully and rock the tractor abit to facilitate the forks movement.

After you pull the shifter look at the forks. Have a flash light with you. They should be centered like the pic. One of the blocks should always be centered. The other to the left or right but never both to the left or right at the same time.

BTW please don't start a thread with XXX give away... has a tendency to put the boys here in a frenzy when they think a tractor is free...

Kind of like a school of Piranha when fresh meat is thrown in.

                                      OK

Maybe more like a flock of Yard Birds when you throw out the left over fishing worms.

Heyyyyyy!!  I had to make sure my mundane post would get some attention !!  Right??

Free wheel horse is usually an eye grabber!  🤣🤣🤣

Ok....  News is not good.  Pulled the shifter.

It was indeed in neutral.  Two forks toward front of tractor move.  Rear two forks will not budge.

Tranny was dry as a bone.

We are getting kerosene next and filling it up.

And I am giving the tractor to my friend.  It's a free one!

Would a fill up with ATF help loosen things?

Yep I bet some moisture just got in there and seized her up ... hopefully not to serious. Squirt some rust blaster down in there too and roll it around. Maybe some ATF & acetone.

Have yer buddy do a full blown flushing on it it gets running & driving.

Beat me to it. ... I got a tranny now that is like that input pully won't even move.

Ill put some ATF in it as it sits on the shelf ... maybe help loosen it up for easier disassembly for the next guy. B)

Never heard of *rust buster".  I'll try to find it.  Yes, friend mentioned flushing it.

Acetone may not be good for the seals.  You will want to replace those seals anyway, but you dont want the trans leaking while it is lubing itself.  :confusion-confused:

I hope you can specify this "rust buster" you are speaking of?  I came across several types.
