604 followed me home today. What is under it?

I brought this 604 home today to maybe revive it.. but what is the thing hanging underneath?

Alternator. Not NOS :lol: The chair, I mean seat is a nice touch. :handgestures-thumbupright:

Looks like a Leece-Neville alternator. They were used on heavy trucks and equipment. It looks like the tag says 14 volts & 130 amps.  (hard to read) I worked on those units back in my days in an auto electrical repair shop. That thing will sure keep your battery charged and run all sorts of accessories if the 6 HP engine will be able to spin it under load! It would be interesting to know the history of your tractor/alternator! 🤔 -JD-

Pullstart with an add on super high capacity charger. 

 

I wonder what the logic was.....

:confusion-confused:         Guess the previous owner wanted to headlights and since the 604 has no battery a power source was needed.          :scared-shocked:

About 1,800 watts -- some serious output that could handle larger electric actuators instead of hydraulics. 

Rule of thumb for electric generators is two horsepower per 1000 watts of continuous load.
