Metal fuel pump question

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I was looking at rebuild kits from (then and now auto) and both my pumps do not have those valves. Took a pic of both housings there is some thing on one side but its crimped in .  Just have two small disks and small springs

You got the Old *OLD* style pump body where the center pieces are fiber valves with springs that are retained by the center retainer. (and gasket) which are shown in your photos next to the newer style valves circled. You will need the center retainer and screw saved back from the old pump to rebuild that pump.

The valves you have circled in your post go to the later model fuel pumps like the one in the center of my picture or the plastic one on the right. The one on the left is what you are working with and the small springs and round valve plates will be needed. Be sure you buy the correct kit as the diaphragms have different posts.  Call Then and Now and they can guide you to the correct kit.

If you have the type that uses just the springs and disks, not the pod type. You can clean the surfaces where the valve disk seals to, clean the disks and flip them over, reassemble. No rebuild kit necessary if the diaphragm doesn't have a hole in it. This works most of the time

Seems to me that would work on one of two but the other was all crustified.

Hence the "this works most of the time" comment. That rebuild kit doesn't include the clean surfaces those disks seal too. That surface of the rings can be cleaned using a Dremel with fine grit grinding stone. I don't remember what size, but something like this and use the flat tip
