ebinmaine 72,173 #4 Posted May 19 Some years we purchase new tree seedlings from the National Arbor Day Society. Gives us a little variety in our yard and comparison to the standard locals that we've had for years.

At my age, that's how it is. I have trees I planted 25+ years ago and now I'm finally starting to see their beauty. 1
953 nut 59,576 #6 Posted May 19 We live in the forest, trees all around us so planting any more is left to nature. Several years ago I spotted this black walnut seedling emerging from beneath a rock. I suppose a squirrel or other critter hid the nut under the rock and never returned for it. It is now a good size tree providing shade for my woodwork shop. I gave up gardening a few years ago, we have so many deer coming around that I hardly ever harvested anything. Being about 400 feet from the house it was more of a wildlife buffet than a garden.
Wayne0 1,144 #7 Posted May 19 The Blue Jays plant Beech trees here. I've got a couple growing strong where there have been no Beech trees before. I'm leaving them, as they are a great food source for birds, squirrels and deer.
953 nut 59,576 #8 Posted May 19 When I was doing the site work for for out house I moved it back about 50 feet to save a Beech Tree. Love the fall foliage and the birds seem to like it. A dozen years ago I planted a half dozen Rhododendrons on the bank behind the house. Birds eat and process the seeds then redeposit them all over the place, love it.
