@Pullstart  looks like a time capsule , personally would get  , a  penetrating  oil recovery going on that paint  , no rubbing  of any kind , just let it soak in for weeks  and retain ORIGINAL PATINA  , would gently rub that stage down with  clean MINERAL OIL  soaked cloth  , again no hard surface  drag , you want to save whats there , will typically be in a perfect darker stage , rest of  mechanical  set up , lubrication  drainage / refresh , especially  fuel system , from tank to carb , like as much  metal line as you can get  ,  eliminate  rubber hose , would go  step by step , helped a guy with a similar  old BOLENS  , Wisconsin engine , that  came out  very well , good luck with it  , pete
