Sublauxation 13 #1 Posted May 12 My kid and a buddy found this sitting out on a city junk day. They towed it home (slowly) and I'm wondering if that's part of the problem? I only see Toro stickers but he said it also has Wheel Horse markings. 3 years ago I never heard of them, now this would be our 3rd so these things are addicting. I like the older ones but this looks pretty cool. I can't find much info on them, seems most of the 8-32s are rear engine? They got it running pretty quickly and it now runs great. Initially it wouldn't move but he cleaned up the clutches and now it moves in 1st but doesn't have enough power to go uphill. I haven't seen it in person yet and don't know much about them but he also said something about a belt that could be the problem? Any insight on where to start problem solving and any link to getting parts for this, I've come up pretty empty handed
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,522 #2 Posted May 12 Suspect what you have is a model 57300 If you have the tractor serial number that would determine the model year 1977-1985 The engine build code would tell what year the engine was manufactured. They also used different engines over the years so the engine model number and spec number would help date it. https://www.partstree.com/models/57300-8-32-toro-lawn-tractor-sn-001000001-001999999-1981/

It's never easy doing this with 3rd hand through my kid as they always miss those details. They were going to scrap it because of the trans and inability to find more info using that as a model # but I convinced him to hold off until I can get more info since it's does look like a neat little tractor that doesn't deserve to be melted down!

He's a bunch of hours away and I don't know much about these, do you have any ideas on where to start aside from cleaning up the clutches? I haven't looked around with the new model number but any idea on parts availablity?

gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,522 #8 Posted May 12 Found a 1984 operator manual that describes where the model and serial number decal is located. This tractor is a Toro model because it predates when Toro acquired Wheel Horse.

Just talked with my kid, he says it goes into all gears but he thinks the spring may be weak as the clutch doesn't look overly worn but it just slips.
