Thoughts on these Mufflers as replacements for my 10 HP K241 & my 12 HP M12

Recommended Posts

Been searching & searching for a replacement muffle for my 10 HP K241. The Chinese crap they sell everywhere that claims to be a direct fit for the OEM is NOT ? It is too long & has a support bracket welded on near the bottom, at a strange angle from the inlet & the muffler would hit the PTO, and the hood. I found these online & would like so thoughts on them if anyone is familiar with them. I was able to remove the 1" NPT Stub out of the block on my 74 C100, so am thinking about a couple of black pipe fittings & one of these mufflers.

I was unaware there was even an attempt to sell an OE Wheelhorse muffler.

Any pics or info?

I don't want one. Just curious....

What type of muffler is it?

Baffled? Straight through? Any other information?

Are you referring to this Stens type muffler? That strange bracket is easily removable and pipe fittings can keep it away from the PTO and hood.

Going with a Gravely type muffler might suit your needs better. Pipes can be added on the output too. That 7" muffler pictured isn't going to muffle much just like the pepper pot type don't. It's too small. :twocents-02cents:

2 posts down, is a post by wallfish that shows the Chinese Garbage mufflers they are selling as REPLACEMENT that "FITS K241 etc" but doesn't even come close! The one he shows is by STENS, but it is the same garbage, not even close to a replacement, as the fit is insane. They also claim it fits the M12 but it doesn't fit that either with out some crazy modifications to either tractor.

I have been looking at this type in the bottom pic too, but anyplace I see these listed I have not found good measurements listed for them, so been hesitant to buy one sight unseen. Do you by chance know all the dimensions on the Gravely style one?

The 1' black pipe nipple coming out of my 10HP was so pitted I couldn't get a tight seal on it with anything I tried, so I finally ended up getting out of the block today (it hadn't been touched since the day they put it in at the factory), and it was egged from trying to get it out. Anyway, got it out, now have to pick up some 1"NPT Ell's & a 45 or 2 & a few nipples in various lengths to get  it far enough outside the hood & ahead of the PTO Drive assembly.

The Stens type was way too long & hits the front right tire unless you put it at a ridiculous angle, & couldn't seem to locate any exhaust tubing that would work with it & no way of making any custom bends even if I did.

Going to pick up some black pipe1" NPT fittings - a few assorted length nipples, ells, 45's & a coupling or 2 tomorrow & just double check the OD on a nipple after cutting the threads off one end to make sure it will slip into the Inlet of a new muffler.

As Far as I can Tell, it appears to be just a straight thru, & it's only 2 " in Diameter & 7" long, so I guess as compared to the OEM that literally fell apart at both ends where the tubes were welded onto it this one really won't do much. Can't find the measurements I took of the old one, but it was I think 4 1/2" dia x 11" long.

Here is the link to the one I showed above:

If the muffler is installed horizontally, it needs a support bracket that is mounted to the engine, not the tractor.

I made a stack muffler for the 854 a while back using a short glasspack. Used several fittings that are threaded and tack welded. Unscrewing the muffler and support allows removal of the fitting assembly...

@JP56

Some clarification.

These mufflers are advertised correctly. They do fit. NOT a Wheelhorse.

To the best of my knowledge there are no OE or aftermarket inexpensive copies of original Wheelhorse mufflers.

The mufflers in this thread are for Cub or Gravely tractors.

I have one of the black ones (Stens type) mounted like this on a Magnum 12. I have a short curved length of pipe on the end to turn the exhaust away from me

I am thinking about running mine almost parallel to the angle of the PTO belt.

If you main issue is its made here, then go for it. I've used the Gravely 18543 on a few of my WHs from the round hoods to the '90s 400 series. As said their a little loud but they fit fine depending how long you I inch pipe is.
