Simplecity 22 #1 Posted April 29 (edited) Good Afternoon All Got the motor back in the 857 and all is well, so I thought. I added a starter solenoid to the electrical system to avoid having to run 6 GA wires to the switch. The system works sporadically, however the voltage regulator does to function. Charging voltage is controlled by engine speed only. What I'm hoping to find is a wiring schematic that shows a solenoid and a starter generator. along with the key switch. If someone can point me in that direction, that would be great. Thanks for your time Simplecity Edited April 29 by Simplecity
squonk 43,335 #2 Posted April 29 (edited) Original diagram Run the wire from the "S " terminal to small solenoid terminal. Make sure solenoid is grounded well. One wire from battery to one large solenoid terminal. Another wire from the other large solenoid terminal to the "A" on the Genny Edited April 29 by squonk
ri702bill 9,196 #3 Posted April 29 I did the same as the second modified diagram on my 854 8 speed - added the solenoid, made a plate to mount it to the back end of the S/G...
953 nut 59,216 #4 Posted April 29 The first drawing Mike @squonk posted uses a 103-990 ignition switch as drawn.
Simplecity 22 #5 Posted April 30 Squonk Thanks for the diagram. Mine is similar except no light switch. I did wire in an hour meter. would that also draw power from the 'L' terminal of the voltage regulator? Thanks for your time Simplecity

I would wire it to the "A" or "I" terminal on the key switch. I believe that the "L" term on the regulator is hot all the time. 953 nut 59,216 #7 Posted April 30 No terminals are connected to other terminals when the 103990 switch is in the OFF position. Your hour meter could be connected to either the A or I terminal.
Simplecity 22 #8 Posted May 5 Good Evening All Well the 857 is playing hard ball, Wired the tractor as per the schematic provided by Squonk, the problem is that in the start position the solenoid 'clicks' but no start. The test light does not dim. Rechecked the wiring, even wired an additional ground from the solenoid base to the battery. I've checked with an ohm meter and a test light, as far as I can tell all connections are good. An interesting phenomenon though, with the battery hooked up and the ignition switch un-hooked, I have power (or continuity) to every terminal on the solenoid, and voltage regulator I'm confused; how can that be? I'm leaning towards a FUBAR solenoid. What say you? Thanks to all who respond Simplecity
