kpinnc 15,327 #101 Posted September 30 (edited) Sady this tractor doesn't have alot of room for stuff like the solenoid and fuel pump. So I had just a couple minutes tonight and I cobbled this little double decker up for my battery box. I keep little brackets and in the case of these I have a drawer full. As with many battery boxes the back retainer strap was gone. This one won't break down before the box rots away. Plus it's 1/2 inch further away from the drive belt. First pic is all the stuff I gotta mount up. The rest is the box I fabbed up. Took less than 30 mins. About all I had time for today... Lee1977 7,349 #102 Posted September 30 (edited) The small solenoid is usually strapped around the starter there is enough room if turned up close to the engine. I was going to use a larger solenoid on the 18 but there isn't enough room Gets real tight on the C's and older tractors. Looks like there is still enough room for the rectifier to bolt to the back of the engine. I also reversed the battery and moved the tie down, there a tall 350cc battery in there. A great example is the innards of the 8-speed Unidrives. I like the “loft” idea for extra mounting space!
kpinnc 15,327 #104 Posted October 5 Snuck out early this morning and reshot the hood. Looks like crap up close. Got more fish eyes in it than a commercial fishing trawler. Oh well good enough I'm done chasing this thing. Hopefully I can buff some of it out when it cures in a week or so. At least no bugs got in it. Hood is just propped up right now. I gotta make some changes to the mount. 4

kpinnc 15,327 #106 Posted October 6 (edited) Finished the electrical. Made up the exhaust manifold. Made up a better hood pivot thingy. Not much time for anything else. Edited October 6 by kpinnc 6
kpinnc 15,327 #107 Posted October 7 Tried to wet sand and buff the hood tonight. Was going perfectly until I tried to focus on a spot with a tiny scratch in it. I was using 2000 grit paper and thought I had plenty of paint. NOPE! Right through to the primer coat... So maybe the 4th time will do the trick. Otherwise I'm gonna mix aquarium gravel in the paint and just call it a textured finish. 3

kpinnc 15,327 #109 Posted October 9 Well I reshot this thing this morning before work. It was lumpy again, but not as bad as the previous attempts. As it has dried, most of it has smoothed out. It's good enough now to buff out nicely so far as I can tell. I'm now convinced my cheapo gun is the problem. My two previous guns never gave results like this with nearly a dozen paintings. Tweaking the ratios made little to no difference.

I’m on 4 or 5 times as well. Mine are workers so I wasn’t super critical about paint. I just kept having issues with trash in the paint and the uncured Bondo and pitting remnants. Knowing next to nothing about painting with a gun didn’t help. I ended up doing mine with a borrowed HF gun and it did a good job. 3

This one will work too but I was actually hoping for some practice ahead of finishing my 701. I guess I'm gonna have to figure something different out.

kpinnc 15,327 #114 Posted Sunday at 02:19 AM (edited) Had to give her a try. She's officially a runner now! Engine is burning off assembly lube, so she smoked for about 5 mins... Edited Sunday at 02:19 AM by kpinnc 2
AlexR 2,209 #115 Posted Sunday at 11:59 PM I know you aren't fully satisfied with your paint job, but I am still jealous of it It's looking great!!! Top notch work as always.
kpinnc 15,327 #116 Posted Monday at 02:30 AM (edited) Mounted the hood. Paint will need buffing more once it's fully cured but at least the top looks decent. Of course the plastic tank I had planned to use won't let the hood latch engage. Turns out the gas cap sits about 1/16 higher than the underside of the hood. I thought this hood was basically identical to the newer C-series hoods, but something is different. I think the holes at the sides for the latch are 1/4 higher. I'll have to measure the Bronco and compare... So I'll use a smaller 1 gallon steel tank. It's plenty of fuel for this engine. And it lets me shut the hood. kpinnc 15,327 #120 Posted yesterday at 04:05 AM Got bored and went for a quick drive tonight. I wanted to see just how bright the LED headlight was. It is very bright! Tractor is basically done. Still got alot of hitch fabbing to do, but it's awesome so far. Oddly enough the low back seat is the hard part to get used to. I leaned back a couple times and thought I was gonna fall over backwards... Did I mention I love LEDs? Even with the electric fuel pump dragging my rectifier down, it still maintained 12.3 VDC with the lights on. Turning them off made no increase in running voltage. 1

I've decided to stop installing them.

I'm just not used to it yet. I bought it because I think lower seats "fit" this style tractor more than taller ones. Just my opinion of course.
