Sady this tractor doesn't have alot of room for stuff like the solenoid and fuel pump. So I had just a couple minutes tonight and I cobbled this little double decker up for my battery box. I keep little brackets and in the case of these I have a drawer full.

As with many battery boxes the back retainer strap was gone. This one won't break down before the box rots away. Plus it's 1/2 inch further away from the drive belt.

First pic is all the stuff I gotta mount up. The rest is the box I fabbed up. Took less than 30 mins. About all I had time for today...

The small solenoid is usually strapped around the starter there is enough room if turned up close to the engine. I was going to use a larger solenoid on the 18 but there isn't enough room

SAM-1982.jpg

Gets real tight on the C's and older tractors.

Looks like there is still enough room for the rectifier to bolt to the back of the engine.

I also reversed the battery and moved the tie down, there a tall 350cc battery in there.

Yep, those WH engineers were pretty efficient. A great example is the innards of the 8-speed Unidrives.

I like the “loft” idea for extra mounting space!

Snuck out early this morning and reshot the hood.

Looks like crap up close. Got more fish eyes in it than a commercial fishing trawler. Oh well good enough I'm done chasing this thing. Hopefully I can buff some of it out when it cures in a week or so. At least no bugs got in it.

Hood is just propped up right now. I gotta make some changes to the mount.

Finished the electrical. Made up the exhaust manifold. Made up a better hood pivot thingy. Not much time for anything else.

Tried to wet sand and buff the hood tonight.

Was going perfectly until I tried to focus on a spot with a tiny scratch in it. I was using 2000 grit paper and thought I had plenty of paint. NOPE! Right through to the primer coat... :angry-banghead:

So maybe the 4th time will do the trick. Otherwise I'm gonna mix aquarium gravel in the paint and just call it a textured finish. :hide:

Well I reshot this thing this morning before work. It was lumpy again, but not as bad as the previous attempts.

As it has dried, most of it has smoothed out. It's good enough now to buff out nicely so far as I can tell.

I'm now convinced my cheapo gun is the problem. My two previous guns never gave results like this with nearly a dozen paintings. Tweaking the ratios made little to no difference.

@kpinnc It looks rather good though. Mine is still a good 5 footer. I’m on 4 or 5 times as well. Mine are workers so I wasn’t super critical about paint. I just kept having issues with trash in the paint and the uncured Bondo and pitting remnants. Knowing next to nothing about painting with a gun didn’t help. I ended up doing mine with a borrowed HF gun and it did a good job.

Thank you.

Definitely better now than the first 3 attempts. This one will work too but I was actually hoping for some practice ahead of finishing my 701. I guess I'm gonna have to figure something different out.
