C145 Engine swap to SK486

Recommended Posts

I debated on putting this here or in the engine forum. Since it applies to both I put it here.

My SK486 engine decided to self destruct today. I am thinking about swapping the 145 engine to the SK486. Yes, I realize the 145 is a cradled engine, while the SK is solid mount. Has anyone tried this before.?

Seems like it should work/

Just move the cradle with it. Should bolt right in. You may want to consider replacing the rubber mounts with solid ones. Likely because if they haven't failed completely, they will eventually.

With the SK being an 8 speed and the C being an automatic you will want to swap the engine drive pulley but everything else should work well. Are they both equipped with battery ignition systems?

Or get a couple spacers and mount the engine direct to the frame... You may have to drill a new hole.. I didn't on this one.
