bc_gold 114 #1 Posted April 9 Gravel roads wear out tires, time for new. I'm leaning towards Yokhama, Hankook or Toyo but have an open mind to your thoughts.

Yes, Ford Ranger had a tire separation, let out 20 psi both front tires - slower speed and made it home. I have never gotten over the F 500 failures especially leaving me stranded on a very remote road leading to Thompson Manitoba in sub zero weather during the early morning hours. The 500 almost brought the company into bankruptcy.

I've been a diehard Goodyear guy for many years and never had an issue with them. Wranglers were all I've ever had on my Ranger. I've had the truck for 14 years and I could count on one hand the number of times it's seen snow. The main reason for that is it's always been pathetic when it comes to traction. I blamed it on it being the nature of a small pickup. It's new tire time this spring and I decided to take the blinders off and look at other brands. I narrowed it down to four A/T tires, the Wranglers, BF Goodrich, General and the Coopers you're referring to. Actual tests of 14 tires in the A/T category and the size I needed are all I have to go by and the Goodyears were #13, Goodrich #3, General #4 and the Coopers easily #1. The difference in every category in the Coopers over the Goodyears was pretty dramatic. The Coopers cost quite a bit more than my usual Wranglers and it will be a few weeks before they get here but I guess time will tell.
rmaynard 15,944 #9 Posted April 9 My previous Subaru Outback had Hankook tires and they were great. My new Outback came with Yokohamas and I don't think they are wearing as well. My Toyota Tacoma had Cooper Discover HT3's. For 25,000 miles they were fine, then the rubber started to get hard and lose traction. Cooper replaced them with Discoverer Road and Trail AT's. Jury is still out on them, but for the first year so far so good.

Beap52 1,218 #12 Posted April 9 Michelins on our Dodge Durango and GMC K2500 pickup. About the only gravel these tires touch is our driveway. Our county roads are chip and seal which is really nice. My reason for Michelins is that they are quiet, seem to last well and I like the ride. The last set on my pickup cost 1/3 of the value of it but I'd do it again. I bought a set of Michelin take-offs from ambulances for a motor home we had. Tires on RVs usually age out before wearing out. I got them mounted then discovered that Michelin had a recall. All 7 tires replace at Michelin's expense. I'll never live long enough to do that again.
bc_gold 114 #13 Posted April 11 (edited) My Goodyear tire purchase Amazon Canada was cancelled by the vendor, every tire shop near me is booked for the next two weeks with winter to summer change overs, then we have tractor tire season. Ended up going into Brandon MB, purchased a set of four Chinese AT branded tires which I'll install myself the old fashion way. bc_gold 114 #14 Posted April 13 Used Carrie's tire machine, when her boss passed away he left her a house with a quarter section, machine shop and a grain cleaning plant. She's going 24/7 cleaning grain for the farmers. The tires that came off the ranger were made in Russian, one's that replaced those are made in China. They actually smell like rubber. Racinbob 11,770 #15 Posted April 13 (edited) I just had to mention this. By not getting to me in a timely fashion the Coopers mentioned in my previous post lose. I canceled the order. We were at our daughters house yesterday for an early Easter egg hunt for the kiddies. Tires were brought up because our grandson needed a set. Our daughters friend was there and mentioned that he gets quite a discount on Generals and Michelins. He priced out a set for the grandson and I was floored. 10%, 20% no, almost 50%. General AT/X's were on my comparison list so I asked him to price those in my size. My normal price would have been $180.99 each. My 'connection' price, $97.38. Some of the numbers are just a fuzz off of the Coopers but still far better than my usual Goodyears so I'm going for it. They will be here this week. That's one way for our daughters new man friend to gain brownie points with dad. Edited April 13 by Racinbob
