dkg520 525 #1 Posted April 8 What is the best fix for a faulty 9 pin connector. Is it to replace it with a new 9 pin connector or is there a better solution for this problem. Thank you
Achto 29,228 #2 Posted April 8 Expensive but this is what I plan on using when my 520 is in need. These are water tight. https://www.amazon.com/Deutsch-HDP10-Diagnostic-Connector-Contacts/dp/B07CX65KD7/ref=sr_1_16?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.w9zTVoEB8GtcH1pM6lWnBwuE7uugoeiqgwNEW2IK1wqGDJ5GkGk_dWF-aCAU_FGSmievYO_cpGjeSRwDDFXWwPmSDgk7PiGH6imThNWtMGnuB0pVBjC3CnzNw2Lg9WJXzLNQPbj-6hhVTksbKZSl_V05-brKBuPucdxe_ZPAzTusihzdoKM1z6RYAoVI9jKurJeuYEKMObEDEX4LnjrC-yhqY_VDl9VnumxHX7kIBdU.OOtTByd6DmGHjdw3aIOte9wTtWweXt_w-B8k1hcCXuU&dib_tag=se&keywords=9+pin+deutsch+connector&qid=1744135228&sr=8-16 https://www.amazon.com/Deutsch-Female-Diagnostic-Connector-Contacts/dp/B07CYX4FJZ/ref=sr_1_23?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.w9zTVoEB8GtcH1pM6lWnBwuE7uugoeiqgwNEW2IK1wqGDJ5GkGk_dWF-aCAU_FGSmievYO_cpGjeSRwDDFXWwPmSDgk7PiGH6imThNWtMGnuB0pVBjC3CnzNw2Lg9WJXzLNQPbj-6hhVTksbKZSl_V05-brKBuPucdxe_ZPAzTusihzdoKM1z6RYAoVI9jKurJeuYEKMObEDEX4LnjrC-yhqY_VDl9VnumxHX7kIBdU.OOtTByd6DmGHjdw3aIOte9wTtWweXt_w-B8k1hcCXuU&dib_tag=se&keywords=9+pin+deutsch+connector&qid=1744135228&sr=8-23
rick 252 #3 Posted April 8 That would be the simplest fix. I assume by your handle you are working on a 520. What is the failure point at the 9 pin connector? Depending on your wiring skills and available tools the fix can be cheap or expensive. Please add a little more info- do you have a burnt wire and melted plastic in the connector? squonk 43,325 #4 Posted April 8 I used 2 4 way flat trailer connectors with the long wires. I moved the connection to the other side of the tractor away from the battery acid fumes and muffler heat. I labeled the connectors C1 and CII and then for each circuit I wrote down what circuit went on what connector and what color wire. So if there was ever a problem with say the starter circuit I knew what connector and wire to check. 1
dkg520 525 #5 Posted April 8 I have no melted wires but a small burnt connection.
lynnmor 7,703 #6 Posted April 8 1 minute ago, dkg520 said: I have no melted wires but a small burnt connection. Let me guess, it is the red wire. All of the charging power goes thru the 9 pin except the first few model years. Those early ones ran a fused wire directly to the solonoid end of the positive battery cable. Several folks on here wired their 520's using the wiring diagram of those older models. You can simply cut out the connector and splice the wires for a solid connection. If you don't expect multiple engine pulls consider that a wiring system with the 9-pin eliminated can still be disconnected at the various points on the engine.
dkg520 525 #7 Posted April 8 You are correct. It’s the red wire
953 nut 59,212 #8 Posted April 8 The 9 Pin was an Onan thing and was not one of Wheel Horses better decisions. As @lynnmor said, cut out and bypass the 9 pin with the RED wire and make a good soldered connection on it. Since it hasn't melted yet I would suggest leaving the rest alone, if it ain't don't fix it.
