davem1111 2,091 #3 Posted January 14 I noticed before going to the website, that the new name was just the same letters re-arranged.... “Our company’s new name is derived from the six letters of Kohler and reflects the reliability, resolve, reinvention, and resilience that have been – and will remain – the hallmarks of this organization in addressing the ever-evolving distributed energy needs of the marketplace.” Sales and marketing people annoy me. 5
Ed Kennell 40,584 #4 Posted January 14 I wonder if Mr. John Michael Kohler approves of the new spelling of his name. 1
Gasaholic 257 #5 Posted January 14 It's a branding/trademark thing - Original Kohler co. also still makes Kitchen and bath and other stuff, they sold the engines/power division to another investment firm but the brand name doesn't come with the deal, so obviously they'd have to rename it, but now it sounds like a "made in china" engine brand (which half of them are already) - Just my 2 cents worth on the "Spin" they put on the name change. 5

lynnmor 7,585 #8 Posted January 14 This nonsense name change was announced four months ago. It might be a good idea to lay in spare parts now, the name change will be costly and guess who gets to pay for that? 1

So why not RE-IN-SO-SILLY???? Kohler engines as we know it has been gone a long time. They squeezed every drop from the reputation of the name years ago. So sad! When I bought my zero turn I had a choice of Kohler and Kawasaki, the dealer said either would fine but parts were a bit quicker from Kohler. When my starter blew up last summer, I couldn't believe how poorly it was built and it should have failed immediately, If there is a next time it won't be Kohler, er, REHLKO.

Wonder how many billions MTD made buying reputable brands and ruining them - I don't even buy their tines for my old Troy horse - better aftermarket made in USA options are out there .

8ntruck 7,407 #16 Posted January 15 Can't help but wonder how much time and money was spent on the name change? I'll bet that there were several consultants or consulting firms involved in the renaming project as well.

Last set I bought were KD tines from Clark farm and garden supply - excellent replacement been using them for years - not cheap but you get what you pay for- I just get the regular Bolo tines - not the hard hats - my growing patches are plowed beginning each season and my ground isn’t that rocky https://clarkfarmsupply.com/KD Troy Bilt Tiller Tines.html Edited January 15 by Lagersolut

OutdoorEnvy 1,734 #20 Posted January 15 Well their name isn't close to what it once was in terms of quality. So instead of addressing that it's cheaper to change the name and hope you can sell the same poor quality products to people who might not realize it's the same items they are trying to avoid. You see shady companies and contractors do this too when word is out they are horrible they change names and start again...rinse and repeat...there's only so many ways to arrange those letters though that make up a reasonable sounding new word though...that will be the big problem in a decade for them

Been both and was able to earn a decent living. And yes, I was told more than once that I was intimidating people. IMHO, using “naming” consultants is smart in our litigious society. Bill D 2,102 #22 Posted January 15 (edited) Doesn't matter what they call the company, the engines they sell now are junk in my opinion. Nothing more than cheap Chinese Honda clones. Edited January 15 by Bill D
WHX?? 50,792 #23 Posted January 15 I beg to differ Bill. I think they have their good. better & best. In today's throw away mentality however the best is seldom seen. Offshores are giving them a run for the money. It seems that plastic cam gears, intake manifolds and now even complete carbs are the norm. Sure there are advances in plastics and manufacturing but with us old skool coots they are are a hard pill to swallow. 4

Shockingly they both run well and start on the first pull even after sitting all winter. Even so, they are nowhere as good as even a older engine.
