D-180 without oil filter

Recommended Posts

Trouty56

The D-180 I recently purchased does not have an oil filter but has a plate instead. It is painted and bolted like it was original but I don't want to make that assumption. Could this be original and can an adapter be added if necessary?

Your thoughts before I make a mess of things.

Thanks for any input in advance.

Yes to both. The early years had the plate installed. You can bolt on the adapter, cut a hole in your tin and you're ready to go.

Thank you Jim for the quick response. I guess I should ask if the filter is necessary. If it is then I start looking for one. I have resources that are close by.

It depends on how hard you use it and how well you maintain it. If you don't abuse it and change the oil regularly you'll be ok without a filter.

Thanks!! For now it is not working very hard at all. Runs but stalls after a bit (which doesn't take long) and seems very rich when this happens. I set the carb screws where they should be and tried to tweak from there but it just seems to choke out. It idles fine but when I throttle it about 10 seconds it chokes. Have taken the carb off and cleaned. A rebuild kit is being ordered if I can't get one locally.

Thanks again!!

Thanks Duff!! I really need all the help I can get. I'm really excited about owning this Wheel Horse. Hopefully, with the forums help, I can get this piece of history running and then work on getting some attachments. Looks like there are many options.

Thanks,

Trouty
