Outlawps 0 #1 Posted September 7, 2009 Sorry for stupid questions but my uncle is fairly new to Wheel Horse restorations and recently purchased an Indy 500 Special . I can find little information about the mower but have found it to be 1968 , 6HP pull start . Its missing the engine but everything else is complete , mowing deck and all . He likes the older type round mowers < 64 704 > but was wondering if this was a rare mower and would it be worth restoring . Its in great shape just has been sitting in a shed for many years . Thanks for any help and feedback
Duff 206 #2 Posted September 7, 2009 Outlaw, first, ! Nothing at all stupid about your questions, and we're glad to have you aboard! I can't speak to the dollar value or rarity of your tractor, but ANY Wheel Horse is worth preserving/restoring as the folks here will be quick to agree! Someone will be along I'm sure who can give you better insight into the Indy 500 Specials, or you may want to browse through past posts here - it's been talked about. Enjoy your time with us, and ! jusjeepn 59 #3 Posted September 7, 2009 It is a collectible! It's not a super ultra rare tractor, but is collectible. If it fairly good condition, it would be worth investing a little into.
MikesRJ 552 #4 Posted September 7, 2009 :scratchead: Certainly collectible, and you should put up some pictures. We'd all love to see it, before and after any restoration work. There's a ton of help out here so feel free to ask any question that comes to mind. The only stupid question is the one you DON'T ask!
sorekiwi 761 #5 Posted September 7, 2009 They are a litle collectable, but there were a couple of thousand made so they do resurface from time to time. There is a thread about mine in the "Work in Progress" forum: http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php?showtopic=8138 The engine was an H60 Tecumseh, it shouldnt be too hard to find one. Kelly 1,028 #8 Posted September 7, 2009 the 500's didn't come with white walls, but a collectable tractor all in all
Red Iron 1 #9 Posted September 9, 2009 :hide: There is no such thing as a stupid question, that's how you find the answer or a solution. I'm still learning all the time-keeps the mind young and fresh! I would love to have a 500 special myself An Indy inspired tractor worth keeping. Like others have said, always take pictures FIRST. We love those before and after shots!! :scratchead:
