Painter314H 4 #1 Posted May 7, 2024 Hello all. I'm looking for a replacement carb for my 1993 314-H (severe shaft wear/wobble). Not having any luck. I've searched around using my motor tag information which a Kohler Magnum 14 HP, Serial number M14S, Spec number 601559, Serial Number 2304700043. I've been told that the OEM number for the Walbro carb is 47 853 29-S. I cant seem to find a direct replacement, or it has been discontinued. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you. ebinmaine 71,800 #3 Posted May 7, 2024 I've retrofitted two Magnums with older type Kohler #30 carbs. On the isavetractors carbs. I like Norman as a person and I appreciate what he's doing to keep old iron running but I've now seen two of his replacement carbs wear out the bore in much shorter time than OE. You're referring to the throttle shaft bore, right?

Painter314H 4 #6 Posted May 8, 2024 Thank you All. Correct my throttle shaft bore is worn out badly, about twice the size of the shaft. Looking at the size 30 carb on isavetractors, I noticed the link arm on top of the shaft has a ball stud, however mine just has a hole. Would I just remove the ball stud then?

Also add a small spring between the governor and throttle shaft. It takes up the slop and makes for much better throttle response. You'll notice the holes are already in both parts. Just add a small spring from your local hardware. 1
Painter314H 4 #9 Posted May 8, 2024 Thank you all for your help. I ordered the Kohler #30 carb and also the adjustable linkage arm and mounting gasket from isavetractors. I’ll see how it all works out in a couple of days once received and installed.

Did that come with a base gasket? While you're in there get a few feet of fuel line and replace yours. That'll likely have some "foreign matter" in it you DON'T want in the new carb. When you get the new carb, you can easily rebuild and store the old one. I keep a couple spares just for that purpose. After a long winter's nap, that's when my carbs tend to need work. I've seen several of the 80s + Walbro carbs that weren't practical for a rebuild because the LOWER bore of the throttle shaft was severely damaged.
Painter314H 4 #13 Posted May 8, 2024 I ordered the gasket with the carb, and good call on the fuel line. I have some laying around and will replace. I plan on taking a closer look at the old carb once removed. Not sure if the lower hole is worn. My thought was to open up the top hole, then machine a small, press fit bronze bushing, to fit the oversized hole and the throttle shaft, then keep it as a back up. Have to lots of spare parts for the old girl. Most of my neighbors have went through 2-3 tractors, and I’m still on my original. I use for mowing and plowing snow. Got to keep them going, they don’t make them like this anymore.

Painter314H 4 #15 Posted May 11, 2024 New carb, gaskets, and fuel line on. Runs nice and smooth. Just need to grab a spring next time I’m in town. Thanks to all for the help.
Painter314H 4 #16 Posted May 11, 2024 I think i can rebuild the old carb. Bottom hole tight. Top hole egg shaped and throttle shaft worn.
