@Horse46  went over to graphite spray , on starter gear to flywheel , also that starter  solenoid screw flight , insures engagement ease , have added  numerous battery ground based connections to all my stuff , easy to make up , also like the industrial  bolt on electrical lugs . allows you to ground as you go on frame . BTW  the engine cooling " tinns " are terrible for  ground connection , your fuel issue , sounds like  dirty tank , and related . done a number of total fuel refits , never put it back exactly as it was , fuel hose break  down is common , use 2 filters , one close to tank another close to carb , personally add a fuel storage additive , STA BIL to every drop of fuel , no more debris !  sounds like you have a number of issues going on , thats the dark cloud over you , have to ELIMINATE  the worst , and go from there . can only  suggest and send you the best  luck on yours , pete
