I've done several Kohler single cylinder engine exhausts using a 45⁰ elbow attached to appropriate length double male pieces. One to the head and one to the muffler. For a muffler I've used a Cub or Gravely aftermarket replacement. Either works well and can be turned facing up. On top of the muffler you can get a metal bathroom drain pipe and trim as desired. This gives you the ability to have a turnout bend and point the end where you want it.

RED-Z06 2,143 #6 Posted April 28 1" NPT into a 45⁰ elbow pointed straight out, into a 4" straight pipe, into a 90⁰ elbow up...into a "Kohler cub cadet" muffler. https://youtube.com/shorts/V6y0zUDAdWI?si=y4DPgo1nZ-8go2uR

You can use the above mentioned Gravely Muffler in the same set up. Also, where the 4" pipe is listed, I've used a longer section either from engine to elbow or elbow to muffler to add a little clearance for the hood paint.
