Well,  every automaker produces a version of that car now.  Unfortunately they are all four doors.  They are overpowered for the happy housewives that drive em.

Those are sweet looking cars!! I especially like the 65 mustang with the top and the 71 Camaro. I wish auto makers would bring back the old body styles. Personally I think the older vehicles are way better looking than new cars and trucks.

I loved my 74 Chevy Vega wagon.

 

The problem with the new stuff is it pretty much all basically looks the same.

Remember when you could easily tell the difference? Even cars from the same manufacturer. Most could instantly tell the difference between a Camaro and a Chevelle or a Mustang and a Fairlane, etc etc etc. Now you can't tell the difference, no matter what it is. Import or homegrown.

The biggest wind tunnel-driven change is the sloping rears that you see on hatchbacks, small SUVs, and the few remaining wagons. It isn’t the pointy front that really lowers the drag coefficient, it's the pointy rear end!

I'm not familiar with this person.

I should mention another often overlooked aerodynamic tweak--the air dam under the nose. With smaller front ends, the grills and radiators have had to shrink. But t’s still critical to get enough airflow for cooling. the air dam forces some air that would go under the car to go up through the radiator and that changed flow causes a low pressure area behind and below the radiator which further helps cooling airflow. At highway speeds, depending on the vehicle, the low pressure area can also add downforce to improve handling.

It also doesn't help that most of the new cars & trucks are all painted white, black, or some shade of gray. Have we become so boring that we're afraid of stand out colors???

In the opinion of a motorcycle rider, I would rather meet a cab over on the road than a conventional cab. Wind from the cab over mainly pushes over the top of the truck and does not effect a rider on the other side of the road. Wind from a conventional cab pushes to the sides and gives a rider a strong blast of air as they meet.

For me, it was the grey plastic cladding on the wheel wells and rocker panels. I really dislike the contrast with most of the body colors that were available. Hence our newest car is an Onyx black wagon (with tinted windows, no less). My son kids me that it’s the car Darth Vader drives to pick up his kids after soccer practice.

Dr. Kamm was active in automotive aerodynamics back in the dark ages - the late 60's and early 70's.  The little spoiler kick on the end of the Vega station wagon was credited to him.

My brother dug up a toy truck just like that. I cleaned it up restored it. It’s the exact same!

I miss 2 or 3 tone paint schemes on vehicles, most vehicles today are all one color, which I think is boring!  Having more than one color breaks up the vehicle and if you get a dent, you only have to repair that area instead of the whole panel.
