6-12 vs 6.00-12 tires on a roundhood

Recommended Posts

RED-Z06

I know 6.00-12 is about an inch taller than 6-12, and usually a bit thicker, im looking at Carlisle Tru-Power 6-12, Carlisle Farm Specialist R1 6-12, and an offbrand 6.00-12, i can get a pair of any of them around 150 so price is not a big deal.  Anyone used these on a round hood, did they fit well?

I always thought the 6 and 6.00 is the same number just with less numerals as .00 doesn't really add anything to a 6

Different manufactures make them different dimensions for some reason even when they all have the same exact numbers embossed on the sides of them. :dunno:

These are 6.00 X12  FirestoneTown and Country snow tires for cars. They are taller than 6-12 garden tractor tires.

6-12 specs at 23" to 23.3" across various brands.

6.00-12 specs at 24.5"-25" across brands.

Handy Don

The 25” tires over the 23" would up your speed in each gear by ~8% . Hoo Hah!

Same with Vredstein V61s...nothing fancy, but only 1 company gets them

They are most likely paying for the rights to the manufacturer names to have them reproduced.... in China.

Can't speak on the Firestones, but the Vredsteins are manufactured in Germany.

I learned something new today!  Generally a 6-12 tire should be 6” wide and 6” either side of the rim high… yielding 6” wide by 24” tall.  Funny how advertisements are always allowed a leeway.  A 50 gallon water heater is usually about 48 gallons.  I’m sure most other manufacturers are allowed to fudge the numbers to fit their advertising.

And why wouldn’t tires be the same?

I imagine some of the posted numbers aren’t listed with an asterisk, or a certain claimed PSI.
