tvr383 0 #1 Posted August 22, 2009 Hi, The left rear axle on my 73 18 auto leaks badly so I need to replace it.I am confused as my parts catalog shows this seal as a race bearing....now I can see that there is a rubber seal around the axle and to me that looks like an oil seal period.But when trying to move the axle by its end,like to check if there is a play to it,I do notice some abnormal play..more than the other side where it doesn't leak anyway. So my question is should this play be eliminated by replacing the oil seal alone or will I need to split open the rear diff to replace some bearings in there (far more of a job!). thanks, Ron.
