Our resident Lubrication Guru, @peter lena, aka "Slippery Pete" would be one of the best to answer this. I for one, use the Lucas Red n Tacky grease - slather it on all surfaces of the chain to lubricate and keep moisture out. Does a good job not getting slung off....

And..... Welcome.

@Alan Mard , like a specific chain lubricant , made for that , always had some on it , so it was never dry , also resprayed it after use . used to use LUBRIPLATE  chain / cable , before it tripled  in price ,  NAPA , has the MAC,S brand of aerosol lubricants , #  1370 chain / cable  spray , price about 8.50 $  they also have the # 1366 open gear lube , like that for rustproofing , been experimenting , also get after the idler pully frame just behind blower , its a metal to metal fit , lubricate that , have also put a stiffer spring on that set up , the freer movement , and pull , makes it work better , lubricate the bottom of the  blower chute , and related , Chesterton  lubricants are good , just the fact that you are , actually  doing something to enhance function , stay at it !  1/2" chain deflection  on the blower . thanks  @ri702bill  and @Wayne0  for the reply's , did a number of  functional gains on my blowers , wonder if we will get some use this year ? plows are ready , pete

Grease is good, but it's too thick to get into the pins. Picks up grit too. Dedicated chain lube is best, as @peter lena said.

@Alan Mard  all others  referring to blower chain lubricant ,  most of what I  see is rusty neglect , its almost too easy to eliminate that . a regular chain specific lube will work , personally suggest , a  PENETRATING aerosol first , MAKE THE RUST RUN OUT , FIRST  . nothing  magic about maintenance , just look at what its SAPOSSED TO DO . rarely see a throttle / choke cable that works , almost a brag point  on failure areas . done a number of blowers , tweaked / enhanced  every movement point , went from  failure to  bombproof . that belt pulley frame , is loaded with , drag areas , mounting /  pulley failures , effect of change / detailing /  electrical lugs , on chute cable pull points . like Lucas anything , it stands up .  regularly , washer up , sloppy movement points , lube , then also set it up so , look at every  intended movement point , super lube oil , about 6$ , H/W  store small bottle , use that on all your cables , check temp range , have also  added  light spring pull to cables / lever point , pull to close , spring pull is always assisting the action , tell me how that works , often its look right at you , get oily , Pete
