GT1800 started needed

Recommended Posts

I pulled the bad starter from my GT1800 but there aren't any numbers on it.  I searched for a starter for a Briggs

422437 0663 01 at Jacks and two are listed but I have no idea which one is correct, can anyone tell me what the correct part number is?

I went to a different parts sight and found the information I needed.  There are two case lengths and the one I took off is the shorter one.  My problem is the motor turned over very slowly and was drawing a lot from the battery.  I have no history on the tractor and because there are no numbers or manufactures information on the starter I removed I believe it is a replacement not the original. Since there is room should I go with the larger starter?

If there's room for it..id go larger.  These engines always suffered high draw and weak starters

Thanks for the reply.  That was my thought but wanted to get others' opinions.

Have you disassembled the existing started to see it it just needs cleaning or new brushes.
