I’m curious how you got a center rock shaft/lift arm apart to be re-installed in this tractor!

I have one that I literally cut out of parts tractor but have been soaking/pulling to separate the arm sleeve from the shaft for three weeks with no joy.

Tunnel reinforcement plates

Are these a factory piece or something you made?

Would they fit a 312 or 416?

They should.  I make something similar from old bed frames that measure 1.5" x 2".

Obviously the added thickness doesn't interfere with the reassembly?

I've never had a problem.  Worse case scenario you can add a piece of flat stock under the rear four fender bolts to level it up.

To get this one out of the GT1600  I ended up pulling the roll pin #48 and 48 then I was able to get the lift arm off the shaft.

At this point by removing the clip #17 and washer #15 I was able to get the rock shaft and lift shaft out as an assembly.

Manual lift.pdf

I then put that assembly into my 20 ton press and heated the rock shaft while pressing on the lift shaft and it finally let go with a bang.

If that did not work my next idea was to cut the rock shaft along the key way as I have extras of those anyways but this is my only manual lift machine.

I did that to get the rock shaft out of the 520.

Made from 2x2x1/8" angle iron.

Should not matter if the machine is a 300, 400, or 500 series as I believe this part of the machine is the same for all.

Notched to fit on both ends and drilled for mounting bolts and brake latch on the sides and for the top tunnel cover and for the front fender bracket.

Added thickness slightly raises the front of the fender by 1/8" and spaces the parking brake over by 1/8".

I have not seen any other ill effects as of yet.

Therein you have me. My max tool for this is a large gear puller and it just can’t get that level of force. I may have to scout out a press somewhere!

That press cost me about $120.00 canadian about 20 years ago.

One of my best investments.

used a transmission from a GT1600 (I know it is 1" axle 4 pinion).

I don't see anything wrong with the 1" axles.     I'm hard on stuff and overload GTs and have never had an issue.    Everyone raves about the 1 1/8 but rarely see damage to a 1" on regularly worked GTs.

My Thoughts exactly.

I would think a 1" shaft could take what a 20 HP engine could dish out.

If I somehow managed to break it I'm sure I could repair it or find another transmission.

Brake pedal installed.

Is that hole in the brake pedal body for machine oil such as 3 in 1 to be dribbled it to ?

I have wondered, “ Is that it, or maybe for a grease fitting?”

nice tunnel reinforcement!   sooner or later the 3, 4, and 500 series always crack/break around that back hole.

Beautiful work!

Yes. Oil it regularly or pop it off and grease it.

Agreed.

I'd think the weakest link will be the 4 pinion differential if anything.

Even at that they're pretty stout.

Pedals came from the GT1600 and had oil holes.

I drilled and tapped them to 1/4 NF for grease fittings.

These will be installed soon.

Dial-A-Hite body casting installed.

I also removed fuel line clips from left side of tunnel as that won't work with the manual lift.

I just have to say it...

@cleat

Your work is just inspiring as heck. I have a Powerpoint of the last "Classic" production run from 2007, and your build looks just as good as those tractors!

Absolutely exceptional!

What size drill bit and what tap size ?

Well, I guess 1/4” NF would be 24 or 28 TPI because I know 1/4 Course is 20 TPI…
