found this part in oil pan when rebuilding p220 engine does anyone know what it is and where it goes

What size is it?  Carb float valve size, or 1/2" hex size?

Could you share a little more information with us? What was going on with the engine causing the need for a rebuild? Were any other stray parts and pieces in the oil pan?

Pure guess here:

 

There is a one way valve in some Onan oil circuits. Particularly in engines with remote filters. Keeps the oil from draining back to the sump and starving components while the filter fills up on restart.

 

No clue if they're used in WH models.

@kpinnc, that is the same road I was going down. Having never been inside an Onan I don't know what the part is but it sure looks like a relief valve cone to me.
