Let’s talk TIRES

Recommended Posts

RED-Z06

Picked up this pair of Kenda 26x12x12 R14T tires for $240 shipped off Ebay, normal price $208ea.  They are overstock so the company scuffs the brand name off the sidewalls, sells them cheap.

Beaded up great on 8.5" wide wheels, a 9.5" or 10.5" would have been easier but im very happy with the tread shape.  Going to fill them with ballast, and put them on my 318 that has a 54" blade on it.  New fronts coming fedex today.

Tire sizes between brands should be pretty even but...they aren't

Yepp.

Can confirm.

I have older Carlisle and new BKTs here.

One of the reasons I like those Carlisles so much is the big squared tread.

Tried something different on a tractor, a Kenda K397 X-Grip 5.7-8.  It rolls out to 18.5" high, right at 5.75" wide, stiff sidewall, great tread pattern.

Interesting. Looks like the old Town n Country.

Decent smooth center. Good edge bite.

They kind of look like the tires that were on 70’s/80’s  pickup/plow trucks back in the day.

A few are similar, BFG Trailmakers are one, Goodyear Sure Grips also.

Today these tires primary use is concrete buggys, Stump grinders, brush cutters

Looking for recommendations here.

I want a set of 24 x 12 x 12 AG tires.

R1 traditional style.

Most important consideration for me is going to be a FULL ACTUAL SIZE.

I decided to order a set of

24 x 12 x 12 OTR Lawn Trac.

This is in comparison to the Carlisle Tru Power 23 x 10.50 x 12 on the tractor.

This last viewpoint is a little skewed for angle but really shows the size difference.

So most running the Ag tires of say 23X8.5x12 don't use a mowing deck I guess.  I need to measure but want some larger tires on mine but not sure how much clearance I would have.  Trying to decide on what size will work or not.  I have a 36inch deck on my B-80.

Can you show a couple pictures.? Each side? How much distance do you currently have from the tractor tire to the adjuster wheels on your deck.?

Chances are good that a 23 x 8.5 would work just fine.

Scroll back a bit and look at the listing for the BKTs  I posted a few weeks ago.

Time for tires on my other 318, i want to use the deck on it so im not able to stuff 26s under it, but a 24 and 23 should fit fine.  Looking at some options, it has a 3pt so turfs are out to a degree.

These are also not bad looking as a hybrid tire

In the realm of practical application:

Hybrid  = Turf.

They have none of the real world benefits of the AG bar.

I dont disagree, they might provide marginally more tractive force than pure turf but they will fall short of a full bar...hybrids usually dont so 1 thing well they just do 2 things poorly.

Tru Powers are also an option

IMHO Carlisle Tru Power is a GREAT option.

I use them both at work and at home and I recommend them often.

You go back a few posts and you'll see I just bought some OTR Lawn Trac 24x12.00-12.

So far, pretty impressed. Obviously I cannot speak for longevity like I can with the Carlisle.

So far I like the Duro 23X10.50x12 AG tires I got from @ebinmaine They grip well and don’t seem to rip up the lawn much if at all.

If your lawn is soggy, the bars will compress the soil a bit--if that is of any concern to you.

@Handy Don Thanks for the heads up on that, but I’m not too worried about it. If it’s that soggy I’d just stay off it and let it dry out anyway.

I mean i get it...some brands run small, some large, some dead on.  But..these tires are tiny.  And right at 10.3" wide so thats great..just short

Sent the Rubbermasters back, ordered the 24x12x12 OTR HBR tires.  This is how they fit up on 12x8.5 wheels.  Both are loaded 75%.

Also finally had a chance to use my custom lug bolts.
